New book by 黑料吃瓜 alumna tells story of real-life superhero

Many have a favorite superhero. There鈥檚 something about such figures with incredible strength, courage and the ability to do what most feel they cannot. Iron man, Wonder Woman, Hulk, Flash, Ms. Marvel 鈥 all are favorites.

Abby Dalton, also has a favorite superhero 鈥 one who is maybe lesser known, but no less amazing. In fact, her hero is the subject of Abby鈥檚 upcoming book: 鈥淎shley the Superhero.鈥

A children鈥檚 book slated to release April 25, 鈥淎shley the Superhero鈥 is the story of Abby鈥檚 sister, Ashley Elizabeth Reynolds, and her battle with a rare autoimmune disease. Ashley passed away in 2022 at the age of 34.

鈥淲hen she was diagnosed, she was ten,鈥 said Abby, a 2019 黑料吃瓜 alumna, who teaches kindergarten at Morristown鈥檚 Cornerstone Christian Academy. 鈥淭hey told my mom that she had basically a year to live because everything was just so rapid with her disease.鈥 That disease was 鈥渆osinophilic fasciitis,鈥 a syndrome that affects tissue under the skin and over muscles.

鈥淪he lived in pain every single day, and no matter what she went through, she never wanted people to feel sorry for her,鈥 reflected Abby. 鈥淪he was always willing to help others. She loved hearing about other people and their stories. And so it just inspired me to keep her story going.鈥

Because of the message she wanted to share, Abby says she decided to tell Ashley鈥檚 story via a children鈥檚 book.

鈥淚 hope that kids who do have diseases and disabilities, that it gives them comfort in knowing that they鈥檙e not alone. I also hope that kids who don鈥檛 go through this, that it gives them empathy and sympathy for others.鈥

Abby says that it was always her sister鈥檚 wish to one day write a book about all the things she had been through. 鈥淚t鈥檚 bittersweet,鈥 she said, noting how things are coming full circle. 鈥淓ven though she鈥檚 not here, her story is still going to be told.鈥

It鈥檚 a story of a true hero who left a lasting impact on others. 鈥淚n my mind, Ashley鈥檚 bravery made her a superhero,鈥 says Abby. 鈥淪he will always be my hero.鈥

鈥淎shley the Superhero鈥 is available for purchase on .
